      <title>San Diego Police Department Charity Painting</title>

          Our most recent charity project was for the Northern Division SDPD Substation in Pacific Beach. In addition to our own painters, we were supported with a good number of volunteers from the Rotary Club. The project took about 10 working days altogether because the building was in rough shape before we began working.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Our foreman Dave headed up the interior painting. To start with the interior repairs and repainting, we did surface preparation and priming, then a drywall crew came in to repair some of the walls, then we prepared and primed those walls. Sherwin Williams donated over $400 dollars worth of paint, and we painted all of the interior walls with SW Silver Lining.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          Troy lead the exterior crew who painted the exterior trim. The main body of the exterior had already been sprayed by Goldcoast Construction, so we painted the trim with a medium-grade plain white eggshell paint.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

          It has been our pleasure to paint the large backdrop panels for these events. Our team looks forward to it every year, almost becoming an event all its own.

It’s a powerful scientific fact: colors impact our brain in different ways, eliciting all kinds of responses.           This is the perfect color for calm and focus, ideal for places that require concentration and the ability to stay on task for long periods of time. Just remember that blue is a colder color, so be sure to compensate with plenty of light (and choose a lighter shade so your office doesn’t feel dark).

          Believe it or not, studies have shown that red paint can actually increase your heart rate (it also promotes appetite which is why a lot of restaurants like to include it in their palette). Red is ideal for energetic office spaces where people are moving, active, and need to be on alert. Too much is NOT a good thing though, so maybe limit it to strategic accent walls.

          Maybe because it has such a natural vibe? Regardless, green is quietly engaging and stimulating, but promotes focus, relaxation, and a sense of calm. Great for spaces where people are putting in long hours and maybe drinking a little too much coffee.

          Literally. Black is edgy and modern, but it also has real undertones of power. It can be stunning with the right accent colors and decorations, but use it sparingly! You also might want to try a wallpaper with black in it if you really like the color but want more character and texture.

          Chism Brothers Painting recently worked on a project for La Jolla Elementary School. Mike Chism informed all Chism Brothers painters that La Jolla Elementary requested a donation of paintwork. Eight painters volunteered to participate, but only six were needed to perform the work. Troy Payne, Raul Suarez, Paul McGoldrick, Dave Olson, John Gallela and Viernon Johnson ended up working on the project.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
          We were asked to paint the interior of the auditorium so it would be finished in time for the school's upcoming events. It was a good sized auditorium with three sixteen-foot walls, four metal doors and frames, and a wooden wall under the stage with doors and storage areas, all of which needed to be painted. We used Sea Pearl White for most of the auditorium and and Hamilton Blue as an accent color and for the front of the stage.
         &#xD;

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
      
           Chism Brothers was glad to help out La Jolla Elementary School. Thank you to all of our painters who willingly participated in this donation project!

          Every year, Chism Brothers Painting chooses a charity project to work on in the community. This year, we decided to contact one of our clients, Barry Hager, former president of the Mission Hills Heritage, to ask if there were any community improvement projects we could do in or around Mission Hills . Barry suggested restoring the three pillars in Mission Hills that were originally constructed in 1909 to mark the entrances to the Inspiration Heights subdivision. Since the original plaques that had been affixed to the pillars were stolen in 2011, new plaques were recently replaced and installed on the pillars.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

          Mission Hills Heritage arranged for Chism Brothers Custom Painting to donate time and materials to repair the stucco and paint the pillars. Since the Chism brothers grew up in the small community, we always enjoy working in Mission Hills and were especially happy to work on a project that helped restore part of San Diego history.
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           
         &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           
          &#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           A crew from Chism Brothers worked for two days on the pillars. The pillars had surface deterioration and were badly in need of painting. It looked like the city attempted a few stucco patches that weren't successful. We tore those out and used carbide scrapers to rip off the failing paint. We then applied
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           on the pillar walls. After drying, we sanded them down with 50-grit sandpaper to match existing surface. For the final paint, we applied two coats of
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           custom matched to the existing color on the walls, and we applied one coat of Frazee Dexcoat in rustic red on the pillar "rooftops," and one coat of
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           in oxford brown on the eaves. The plaques were securely affixed to the pillars with bolts and epoxy, to deter future theft.

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

          While we were working, we were greeted by many passers-by of the neighborhood to inquire about the project or to express encouragement and gratitude. This project was well-worth our time and effort through seeing the involvement and appreciation of the Mission Hills community. We are glad that we could help in restoring a part of community heritage to its former glory!
